Retta Leaphart is a theater artist based in Helena, MT.  She holds a BA in Acting and Directing from Middlebury College and an MFA in Theater from Sarah Lawrence College. Retta has also studied at the British American Drama Academy (BADA), the La Mama International Symposium for Directors and Choreographers and with the London Theater Company.

As an artist, Retta loves making things with her hands and helping bring new ideas and shows to life. She was selected as an emerging artist to participate in The Puppet Lab at St. Ann’s Warehouse in 2010-2011.  Her full length puppet show, Black Acre, premiered at Theater for the New City as part of the Voice4Vision festival in 2011. Her most recent original work, Off the Map, was produced by Trusty Sidekick Theater Company and premiered at The University Settlement in lower Manhattan.

Retta has been a teaching artist with the New Victory Theater, Disney Theatrical Group, Brooklyn Arts Council, Town Hall Theater (NYC), Grandstreet Theatre, Venture Theatre, Missoula Children’s Theater, The Boomerang Program and Sitka Fine Arts Camp.

Retta performed with Trusty Sidekick Theater Company during their residency at The Park Avenue Armory in New York City (October 2014) and recently directed Still Life with Iris, Our Town, Speech and Debate, The Giver, and Sense and Sensibility at Grandstreet Theatre.  She is an Extended Company Member of Trusty Sidekick Theater Company in NYC.

In Helena, Retta serves as the Education Coordinator at The Myrna Loy, and a faculty member at Grandstreet Theatre School.
